Which Features Use AI?
Most Convert.FAST converters process files entirely on our own EU-based infrastructure using open-source libraries. However, some advanced features require specialized AI models:

How We Protect Your Privacy
GDPR-Compliant Providers Only
We carefully vet all AI providers based on privacy practices, security certifications, and GDPR compliance—not just performance. All providers must have:
- Full Data Processing Agreements (DPAs)
- Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for international transfers
- SOC 2 Type II or equivalent security certifications
- Explicit commitments to not train on customer data
No AI Training
Your files are processed by pre-trained models only. They are never used to train, fine-tune, or improve any AI model—ours or the provider's. Processing is solely for your requested conversion.
Immediate Deletion
Files are deleted from provider systems immediately after processing completes. Providers act as data processors under our instructions—they cannot retain, analyze, or use your data for any other purpose.
Clear Labeling
Every AI-powered converter displays clear indicators so you always know when AI is involved:
- "AI-Powered" badge in the dropzone privacy badges
- "Global Servers" indicator (instead of "EU Servers") for features using distributed providers
Data Flow for AI Features
When you use an AI-powered feature, here's exactly what happens:
- Upload to Convert.FAST: Your file uploads directly to our EU-based servers, encrypted with TLS 1.3.
- Secure transfer: We send the file to the AI provider over an encrypted connection.
- AI processing: The provider processes your file and returns the result.
- Immediate deletion: The provider deletes your file immediately after processing.
- Result delivery: You download the converted file from our EU servers.
- Auto-delete: All files (input and output) are deleted from our servers after 1 hour.
Standard Conversions: Still 100% EU
For the vast majority of conversions—image format changes, document conversions, ebook transformations, audio codec conversions (like MP3 to WAV), and archive operations—we process files entirely on infrastructure we own in the European Union. No external APIs, no third parties. Your files never leave our servers.
AI-powered features are the exception, not the rule. Most users will never need them, and those who do can make an informed choice.
