PSD (Photoshop Document) is Adobe Photoshop's native file format for saving layered images. A PSD file can contain multiple layers, masks, adjustment layers, text, and vector shapes—preserving the full editing capability of a design project.

While PSD is the industry standard for professional design work, the format isn't directly viewable in web browsers or most image viewers. Converting to PNG or JPG produces a flattened composite image—perfect for sharing, web use, or archiving your work.

JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is the universal standard for photographic images, using lossy DCT-based compression to achieve 10:1 or higher compression ratios with minimal visible quality loss. First published in 1992, it supports 24-bit color and works across every device, browser, and application. The lossy nature means repeated editing and saving degrades quality—best used as a final delivery format.

JPEG excels at photographic content and remains the de facto standard for sharing, publishing, and web delivery. With mature encoders like MozJPEG delivering excellent quality-to-size ratios, JPEG continues to dominate despite newer alternatives.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens to transparency?

JPG doesn't support transparency. Any transparent areas are flattened to white by default. If you need transparency preserved, use our PSD to PNG converter instead.

What happens to my layers?

We produce a flattened composite—the same result you'd get by flattening in Photoshop. All visible layers are merged into a single image. Keep your original PSD for future editing.

What happens to hidden layers?

Hidden layers are not included in the output. We read the flattened composite that Photoshop stores in the PSD file—this is exactly what you see when viewing the file. If you want hidden layers to appear, unhide them in Photoshop and re-save before converting.

What quality is the output?

We use quality 90 by default—an excellent balance of visual quality and file size. This produces images that are virtually indistinguishable from the original while being much smaller for web use.

What about effects and blend modes?

All layer effects (drop shadows, glows, etc.) and blend modes are rendered in the final output. You get exactly what you'd see in Photoshop with all layers visible.

How are credits calculated for this conversion?

Cost: 1 credit each

How it works:

  • Files up to 25 MB: 1 credit (minimum)
  • 26-50 MB: 2 credits
  • 51-75 MB: 3 credits
  • 76-100 MB: 4 credits
  • Over 1000 MB: 40 credits (maximum cap)

Example: A 5 MB design = 1 credit. A 95 MB design = 4 credits.

Why per-megabyte? Larger files require more resources (processing, bandwidth, storage).

What are my daily and monthly credit limits?

Credit allocations vary by account tier:

TierDaily LimitMonthly Limit
Free50 credits/day
Pro10,000 credits/month
Business30,000 credits/month

Daily credits (Free tier, including guests) reset every day at midnight UTC. Monthly credits (Pro & Business) reset on your billing cycle date.

Note: With 1 credit each, designs under 25 MB cost 1 credit each. Pro users can convert 10,000 designs per month.
